Good morning, Fandom, and happy second day of Christmas!

*chittering*

Oh! It's also St. Stephen's Day--though spelled incorrectly for me--Boxing Day and the first day of Kwanzaa. Happy Holidays! The notes about yesterday are pretty thin on the ground, unlike the snow. Liliana was outside enjoying the weather, Lucifer, Duke, and Octavia set out on their ship, and Steven and Watts went for Chinese.

I'm heading back inside to enjoy the warmth there. Enjoy your time with family and friends, everyone.

Meme: Year End Roundup

I think I might be the actual only person in this office on my second week at this job where I don't know all of what I'm supposed to be doing, SO. MEME. We haven't done this one since- strangely- this time last year.

This is gonna work like a questions meme: Players respond ICly to questions about THIS LAST YEAR OR UPCOMING YEAR. For instance, "Who's someone you're glad you met this year?" or "What are your new year's resolutions?" or "What are you looking forward to in the coming year?" All answers are IC, nothing's gained IG from this but fun.

Please feel free to add your own questions! Seriously I came back to three emails and two were "so and so is trying to reach you on Teams to tell the office Merry Christmas."

Ching Tai, Thursday evening

it was Christmas Day. Which of course Steven and Llewellyn did not celebrate as others did. But that didn't mean they didn't honor the 25th day of December in other ways.

Namely sitting down at Ching Tai for a lovely Chinese dinner.

"Mushroom dumplings look a treat," Steven told Llewellyn.

Oh no, I would never have guessed you wanted that.

*chittering*

I'd never be sarcastic either. Just like I absolutely love spending this holiday with you.

Let's see, the only bit of news was in Town, where Illyana was in her room. Good for her. I know I'd rather be in mine right now.

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 12/24

Good morning. Wednesday, again. Another quiet day yesterday. A lot of those lately. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Nothing from the school because we’re on break. Nothing from the dorms because that happens most days. And we’re on break. And only a few things from the town. Because…it’s a break week. Those are always quiet.

At the Town Hall Jesse was dealing with gremlins singing songs. There were a lot of those yesterday. They stood outside my door all day singing about Last Christmas.

Kitty had more gremlins singing at Caritas while she was trying to wrap presents. And they sang with the zombies. Tino did not seem to be involved. A nice gift for Kitty.

And Lucifer also had singing gremlins bothering him at The Devil’s Nest until he convinced some of them to sing with him.

That’s all I have. Enjoy your Wednesday. Merry Christmas, tomorrow, if that’s your holiday. I’m going back home now to see what was in the box that was waiting when I woke up.

Faculty Advisors!

Sneaking this in before most of us disappear for the holiday, hopefully...

This time around we need two teachers to help our new students adjust, readjust, or continue to adjust to Fandom's little quirks (you know, the squirrels, the raccoons, the sometimes everyone turns into a child...).

Please volunteer if your teacher will be the following:

  • Non-antagonistic about helping out someone (ICly, your character can be signed up against their will, but, please don't sign up if they're not going to be helpful to a newbie).

  • You have the time to field questions from a newbie, and your character will be around consistently for the first few weeks of the semester.

  • The new students arrive Saturday, January 3rd, so online availability for at least part of that day

The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

"No, no, no," Lucifer had informed the gremlin carolers at the start of the night.

They had insisted.

He had yelled 'no' again, several times, and finally directed them to at least sing quietly in the corner.

But as the evening progressed, and he spent more time behind the piano-- well.

"Oh, fine," he called, near midnight. "Who among you knows 'Fairytale of New York'? Get on the piano."

The Devil's Nest was open, and the Devil was making lemonade out of an excruciatingly messy bag of lemons.

Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty was not actually working. Well, she was, if anyone came in, but work was a good way to finish wrapping presents without a seven-year-old making up convenient excuses to come by. She'd commandeered a table I the lounge as a wrapping station and had at least confined her mess to there.

As for the caroling gremlins... well, they were onstage. With the zombies. They were current working through Little Drummer Boy and Kitty was wondering how fast she could possibly be done with this and flee.

Hey there, island! It's me, ya girl Arden Finch, welcoming you to the Christmas Eve's Eve broadcast. We're gonna make this quick because there are caroling goblins on this street and I wanna be gone by the time they make it to the station. Fortunately, there are very few notes, because School is out and the Dorms have figured out how to keep the squirrels out or something.

We had Professor Vess grading papers at the Infinite Consortium...wait. Not grading papers, but grading the paper? Like a newspaper? Okay, damn. Everyone was having a different reaction to the tinsel rain at the Magpie Emporium; for Vi, it was business as usual, for Saffron, it was the greatest day ever, and for Little Bot, it was absolute hell. Aww, good luck Little Bot! And our last note from the day is from the Clinic, where Professor James shared his tinsel bounty with Stabby. And that's it for the notes, which is great because I can hear the gremlins now, but I'll leave Tim Minchin's White Wine In The Sun playing to hopefully drown them out. This is ya girl, Arden Finch, wishing y'all a happy holidays! Bye!

Town Hall, Tuesday

There was a knock on the door. That, in itself, was unusual: the door was unlocked, the idea was that anyone could walk right in.

So Jesse denied her every instinct to just leave it be, and got up to open it. It flew open to reveal-- a band of gremlins in a variety of clashing outfits.

She blinked.

The mohawked gremlin at the front opened his mouth. What came out was a true onslaught of sound. "OUTSIDE THE CAROLERS START TO SING, I CAN'T DESCRIBE THE JOY THEY BRING 'CAUSE JOY IS SOMETHING THEY DON'T BRING ME--auuggh."

The gremlin beside him yoinked her elbow out of her friend's ribs and brushed her long bangs out of her face. At a more sedate volume, she sang, "So I stand with a dead smile on my face, wondering how much of my time they'll waste-- Oh God, I hate these Satan's helpers-- And then I guess I must've snapped, because I grabbed a baseball bat, and made them all run for shelteeeEEEEr!"

And just like that, the whole off-key gremlin horde threw their back into the song. "IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME! AGAIN! IT'S TIME TO BE NICE TO THE PEOPLE YOU CAN'T STAND! ALL YEAR! I'M GROWING TI--"

Jesse closed the door. It seemed like the decent thing to do.

As she walked back to her seat, she could still faintly hear a jolly chorus in the background--

"Please post my bail! Please post my bail!"

"Check with the sheriff's office on that one, will you?" Jesse told her assistant, and sighed.

Fandom Clinic, Monday 12/22

Stark was covered in tinsel. Draped in excessive amounts of holiday cheer. Or at least in excessive amounts of shiny strands. Who knew it could not only rain tinsel but pour tinsel as well?

"I'm very glad all the coffee has lids," he said, setting the tray off drinks down and trying to unbury the cups. He'd de-tinsel himself once that was done. "And the cookies are in the box there but those are fine. It was closed the whole time."

Stabby made some grabby motions and Stark handed over some of the tinsel that was piling up on the counter.

"He likes decorating," a nurse said. "In case it wasn't obvious from how Christmas threw up all over his tank. Again."

The clinic was open, the crab was going crazy with tinsel, and the alien was still trying to get all the tinsel off of himself.

The Magpie Emporium, Monday [22/12]

Saffron was in raptures over the sheer amount of tinsel for her to chase and bat about the store as Vi served various customers looking for last minute gifts and tried to steer people away from games that might have resulted in tense situations over the next few days degenerating into fist fights (all the store's copies of Risk had been locked behind the counter since November for exactly this reason).

The usually cheerful Little Bot on the other hand was regularly beeping sadly for Vi to help detangle tinsel from around his wheels.

Infinite Consortium, Monday

Unlike that first year, today's tinsel rain didn't trigger an existential crisis when it landed in Liliana's hair and she loved that for herself. Today was too good a day to ruin with thoughts of the Mending. Granted, a day would truly have to be wretched to be a worth thoughts of the Mending, but that was neither here nor there. Instead, she was enjoying a relaxing day, flipping through a newspaper she'd gotten from Ravnica over the weekend. Hmmm, much was being made in the Arts and Culture section about a Rakdosian guerilla theater group. Perhaps she could see if Summer was interested in catch a--

"Oh, they're based in the Sixth District?" she asked, lip curling. "Absolutely not." Like those apple-growing yokels could possibly know anything about entertainment.

The paper was going into the trash immediately. If that was how far the standards of journalism had fallen--Wait.

Liliana reached down and fished the paper out, then grabbed a red pen and immediately set to work editing the paper not (just) for grammar and spelling errors, but also logical inconsistencies, various fallacies, and poorly-supported arguments. When she was done savagely grading it, she'd send it back to the newspaper office for them to look over and potentially learn from.

Anything could be turned into a teaching opportunity. This was doubly true if you were petty.

Oh. Morning, everyone, and welcome to what's probably going to be a quiet holiday week. At least the island should still be throwing things at us for a little while still, so you don't get too complacent.

As for news, Gregorith was enjoying his Snuggie at work. One kid still hasn't taken his off and that's going to become a problem. Gladio took advantage of a quiet day by hanging out at the Perk, and Lucifer and Octavia had date night with thigh-talking and that's all I'm gonna read of that.

And that's it. I'm headed back out. It's up to you whether this requires an umbrella or not.

The Perk; Sunday Afternoon [12/21].

Being as busy as he'd been helping out getting everything ready for winter over at Soulwood and all the usual trainings and other holiday things, Gladio hadn't had a whole lot of free time on his hands lately. But he knew exactly what he was going to do with the afternoon he'd discovered wide open that Sunday, something he hadn't had a chance to do much of at all lately: head down to the Perk for a nice drink, a baked treat, and a good book.

The treat was a cranberry orange muffin, the book had far fewer actual battles than the title might suggest but was still pretty interesting, and....well, he couldn't decide on seasonal drinks, so he had one peppermint mocha and one gingerbread latte, both of them large and both of them definitely going to be enjoyed before he headed back home again.

Sure, there was a distinct lack of Nells and kittens to snuggle up against him here at the Perk, but he really did miss when he did this more regularly.

Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Evening

It was the second-to-last Sunday of the year, and likely the last Sunday night date night of the year. Maybe that could've called for something special, in a fancy kind of way, but Octavia had felt like it called for something comfortable. Soft clothes and easy food. The island appeared the agree with the former, what with the freely provided snuggies - not that Octavia was currently wearing hers, but she was definitely going to keep it, likely much to the delight of her partners.

As for the food, she'd ordered in from a Greek restaurant and bakery on the mainland. It was a little heavy on the pita and the dips and spreads, and also various little pastries that were more on the dessert side of things - but what was more comfortable than finger food? Especially when you had a good coffee table to spread it all out on while lounging on the couch.

Well, lounging mostly on the couch, slightly on Lucifer's lap. As you do. "I'm not getting in your way, right?" Octavia rasped, as she leaned lazily (by Octavia standards) towards the table to pick up another bit of pita.

Fandom Museum, Sunday December 21st

The reasons for the disguise were somewhat muddied at this point, but Gregorith still normally felt more comfortable when out and about with it on. Today he was amused by the notion of a big scary demon wearing a snuggie so he decided to forgo the disguise.

Though he was wearing it backwards because he just found it easier to do things that way.

There was cocoa and coffee in case people needed help warming up if/when they came in.

Fandom Advent! Final Week!

Seasonal greetings, Fandom, and happy holidays! For your final days before and into Christmas, here's advent:

Monday, December 22nd: It's raining tinsel, everybody.
Tuesday, December 23rd: Gremlins go door to door, singing carols!
Wednesday, December 24th: Commence the snow! Also, the air is made up of about 7% cinnamon - just enough to make everything smell nice.
Thursday, December 25th: Everyone wakes up to a small present! Nothing fancy, nothing expensive, just that one little thing you've been thinking you should get but haven't because you forget or it's never quite cheap enough to buy in the moment when you see it in the store...

Fandom Radio, Saturday, December 20

No, you see--yes, it is Saturday, but I did this yesterday, and so I thought I might be allowed to sleep in today...ah, well. No rest for the wicked, I suppose.

Good morning, dearest listeners, and welcome to another day's news courtesy of our drunken squirrel friends! I remain Miss Lydia Bennet, here to share with you all of yesterday's happenings that the squirrels bothered to notice. Let's crack on with it, shall we?

At the school, Driver's Education drove sleighs and Weather and Storms discussed what they'd learned over the semester. I've nothing from the dormitory, sad porg is sad, on to the town, where Mr. Henry of Skalitz was hard at work at the forge, whilst at Needful Things Dr. Quinn made the most of her temporary antlers by decorating them--oh, brilliant idea, I wish I had thought of doing that--and was joined by Dr. Isley for luncheon. Miss Skywalker was hard at work in her warehouse, whilst Mr. Rand stopped by to visit the Perk, and finally, things at The Devil's Nest were appropriately festive, with Mr. Morningstar playing holiday tunes upon the piano. How lovely! Until next week, dear listeners--and do try to provide me with some gossip by then, hmm? Farewell!
